Due to the continued growth of Rossendale Group’s already established service and repair customer base, we are seeking mechanically skilled lifting equipment engineers to perform inspections, repairs, maintenance and modernisation of all types of lifting and materials handling equipment.

You will be an engineer with experience working on lifting equipment in previous employment, with good knowledge and experience of electrical and/or mechanical service work. You will work as part of a team in a friendly working environment and be encouraged to develop your skills, including beneficial training.

Essential Requirements
  • Experience working in the lifting equipment industry.
  • A background in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • A current UK driving licence.
  • Good interpersonal skills for customer relations.
  • The ability to work at heights responsibly.
  • A positive attitude towards health and safety.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to overcome technical challenges.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as per business requirements.
  • You must be physically fit and able to work at height.
Preferential Requirements
  • Ability to investigate and repair a variety of overhead crane and hoist components in varying customer locations.
  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with overhead crane maintenance and inspection routines.

The basic working week comprises 39 hours with regular premium rate overtime available. The overtime rate is paid on travel and can be booked home-to-home in most cases. Additional bonus payments for aggressive environments and specialist sites.

Schedule: 8 hour working day, Monday to Friday

Rossendale Group provides specialist lifting equipment engineering design and manufacturing services and is a leading nationwide inspection, testing and certification company. Clients include major companies in the power generation, power transmission, steel, petrochemical and nuclear industries. Established for over 70 years, the company is expanding its engineering facility. The role includes carrying out and overseeing work on modern design systems for lifting structures and devices and the provision of calculations, FEA, CAD drawings and job management for complex projects.

Work Hours

Basic hours are 39 hours per week, 8am to 5:00pm (4:00pm on Fridays).

Responsibilities and Duties

The company has three production centres, at Ellesmere Port, Lincoln and Rotherham where lifting equipment products are manufactured. The main responsibilities are to ensure that the designs, drawings and other engineering inputs into the jobs are fit for purpose, and safe. Under the supervision and training of the company’s Chief Engineer the role will include:

  • Produce structural calculations.
  • Produce FEA using Ansys or similar.
  • Produce manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCad.
  • Produce automated design systems using spreadsheets.
  • Manage projects involving the technical office, ensuring timely completion within budget.
  • Provide technical advice to the sales team and clients.
  • Work with the company to introduce new software and design techniques.

Typical daily routines will involve a balance of most of these responsibilities.

Reporting 

This is a key role in the company and reports to the CE who takes an active interest in the company’s technical development.

Qualifications and Skills

A proven background in steel structural engineering. Experience with lifting equipment is preferred but not essential. The job requires –

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Fully capable with 3D CAD, FEA and Excel.
  • Good management and communication skills; able to lead and be part of a team; attention to detail associated with safety related work.
Salary and Benefits 

Salary negotiable, depending on experience and skills. The company contributes to the Nest pension scheme. 5 weeks holiday plus statutory days.
