Scope
Operators of power stations, such as EDF at West Burton, are constantly looking for improvements in ongoing maintenance safety and efficiency. Maintenance teams require access to and handling of large, heavy components such as gearboxes and motors when breakdowns occur and immediate maintenance or replacement is required.
Solution
Rossendale Group produces a range of jib cranes in capacities from 125kg to 10 tonnes. Free-standing, column mounted, overbraced, underbraced, with manual or power slew are available, all with manual or electric hoists.
EDF chose 1-tonne SWL, 10m reach power slew, power hoist jib cranes, fitted to their existing building columns. This option gave the customer a lifting option that did not require any supporting structure on site, with all motions controlled by a radio pendant.
Result
Rossendale Group installed the jib cranes during normal working hours with no requirement for site shutdown. Installation was followed by a proof load test on site and Rossendale issued certification including the Declaration of Conformity and the Report of Thorough Examination and test under LOLER. The documents are available to customers at the Rossendale Group free to use certification portal.
